Tips for Your Next Session

Having your pictures taken isn’t something that you have done everyday…maybe you only have it done once a year, who knows, maybe even longer! It can be stressful, and I can agree with that from personal experience but really…it shouldn’t be.

There are so many things that you have to prepare before your session, one of the biggest is what you’re going to wear! I thought we’d share a few tips today that might make your process of getting ready for your next photo session a little easier.

First of all, as far as the outfits go, make sure it’s something that fits your personality, something that is you. If this is for family portraits, you don’t all have to wear the same thing or be completely matching, for example, you DO NOT have to all wear jeans and white t-shirts…get the idea? Solid colors work really well but you can mix it up a little bit. Say mom has on a navy blue dress, maybe her son could wear a little button up, plaid shirt with the same blue tones in it, and daughter could maybe wear a similar dress as mom but with a splash of color in a belt or something like that. And just think…this way these outfits will actually get worn again! The day of your session make sure these outfits are wrinkle-free! This can make or break a look, and trust me…your photographer doesn’t enjoy removing wrinkles from your clothes.

Grab some accessories to set things off! Shoes, jewelry, hats, and scarves are all great additions to an outfit. It doesn’t all have to be about the clothing though, think about other props. Talk to your photographer about things that might describe who you are. High school seniors…think about all of the activities you’re involved in and how you can show that off. Families…what activities do you like to to as a family? Are your children in a certain phase at the moment (maybe a superhero or princess phase)?northern virginia senior photographer

These are all things that can make your portraits truly unique.

If you need to get a haircut or color, doing so about a week before your session is best.

Don’t overdo it on the tanning, and watch the tan lines.

Use chapstick more the week of your session…it really helps!

Most importantly, communicate with your photographer before, during, and after your session. They can help you and have lots of advice on how to make your session run as smoothly as possible.
